Ya que he dicho algo de lo mucho
que agrada a Dios Nuestro Señor un corazón desinteresado, quiere y me manda
este gran Rey de los cielos y tierra que
diga cómo me ha amparado, guiado y gobernado, desde que su mano poderosa me sacó
del convento de Tarragona (que fue mi primer cielo) hasta conducirme a este
nuevo mundo, ciudad de Santiago de Cuba; con tanta seguridad en medio de tantos
y tan inminentes riesgos, que solo vuestro poder infinito, oh Dios, pudo
salvarme la vida.

Since I have said something on how much our Lord is pleased
with a selfless heart, this great King of heaven and Earth wants and requests
of me to share how he has covered, guided and governed me, from the moment his
mighty hand drew me out from the convent
of Tarragona (which was my first heaven) until he lead me to this new world,
city of Santiago de Cuba; with so much certainty amidst so many and so imminent
