Human trafficking is a modern-day form of slavery with over twenty-seven million people enslaved worldwide. The scope of the problem is hard to define because human trafficking is largely a hidden crime, making accurate numbers of trafficking incidents difficult to determine. It is a crime under state, federal and international law and is currently the second fastest growing criminal activity, exceeded only
by the illegal drug trade.
There are two major types of human trafficking: sex trafficking, in which a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such act is under 18 years of age; and labor trafficking, which is the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision
or obtaining of a person for labor or services through the use of force, fraud or coercion for the purpose of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage or slavery.
Sex trafficking is especially reprehensible because it specifically targets vulnerable women and girls. Some victims are abducted; others are
runaways or are lured out of poverty r sold by their destitute families. Many are desperate for acceptance
and enticed by the false promise of romance, good jobs or a better life. Pimps and johns see them as easy prey and exploit them, especially the young women. The victims are often kept on the streets until they meet their quota of money for the night, which they must turn over to the trafficker.

If they rebel, they are beaten, raped, drugged and starved into submission. The pimps recognize that women under their control are a more lucrative source of income than selling drugs because the same girl can be sold over and over for years until she is no longer useful or dies.

The links between human trafficking and other social justice issues, such as poverty, immigration, and violence against women and children are complex. Factors contributing to the tragedy of human trafficking are:
ƒ Growing demand for both labor

The focus of this module is the objectification of women as a significant contributing factor to human sex trafficking and the creation of a climate in which violence and exploitation of women and girls is both tolerated and tacitly encouraged.

In her paper, Objectification of Women, Phyllis B. Frank says: "A definition of objectification might be: portrayals of women in ways and contexts which suggest that women are objects to be looked at, ogled, even touched, or used, anonymous things or commodities perhaps to be purchased, perhaps taken - and once tired of, even discarded, often to be replaced by a newer, younger edition; certainly not treated as
full human beings with equal rights and needs. Once a class of human beings are seen as objects or commodities, or in ways that effectively reduce them to objects, it becomes much easier to use them as one would an object, with as little, or no, regard."

Objectification of women is obviously common in mainstream media,
advertising, calendars, Hollywood movies and magazines – it is seen everywhere. Half-naked female bodies are displayed on walls; in public, like objects; exposed female bodies are used as markers of male territory or turf. This raises immediate signals of discomfort, and of menace, for women. In short, the direct negative effects on women, as they are exposed to it daily are: negative self-images, shame about themselves, diminished feelings of dignity, autonomy, privacy, and safety.

The objectification of women can lead women and girls to believe they are old and unattractive even in their 20’s, that they are not taken seriously and cannot match in real life their photographed, objectified image even if they are young and beautiful.
Why Is This Happening?
The objectification of women may contribute to a "climate" inwhich violence and exploitation of women are both tolerated and tacitly encouraged. Once a class of human beings is seen as objects or commodities, or in ways that effectively reduce them to objects, it becomes much easier to use them as one would an object, with little or no regard. It can become the norm. [Source: Objectification of Women by
Phyllis B. Frank] Throughout history, sexual objectification of women has been a constant in society. Women were, and in many cultures still are, perceived as inferior to men; and therefore are to
be dominated, subdued and controlled.
They are then simply treated as an instrument of sexual pleasure, a "sex object" or commodity to be bought and sold, used and abused without regard for their personhood or dignity.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2406409979904650946.post-42617842703981702352016-02-24T15:37:00.002-08:002016-02-24T15:38:33.332-08:00“Human Trafficking: 6 Solutions that Are Working”…

February 8: International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking

The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the International Union of Superiors General has designated February 8 as an annual day of prayer and awareness against human trafficking. February 8 is the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita, who was kidnapped as a child and sold into slavery in Sudan and Italy. Once Josephine was freed, she became a Canossian nun and dedicated her life to sharing her testament of deliverance from slavery and comforting the poor and suffering. She was declared a Saint in 2000.
On February 8, Catholics all over the world are encouraged to host or attend prayer services to create greater awareness about this phenomenon. Through prayer, we not only reflect on the experiences of those that have suffered through this affront to human dignity, but also comfort, strengthen, and help empower survivors. close the weekend with the Jewish Community joining us at mass and a reception
follows for fellowship. In the Mass Rabbi Levin, the principal rabbi of the
Temple joins our pastor in the ‘shared homily’. It was nice to hear the story.
Thirty years ago, when it was unthinkable for Jewish and Catholics to even have
a civil conversation and the Jewish community arriving to Boca Raton was not
very welcome in the area, while the Temple was under construction they were
looking for a place to instruct the children in the Torah and Talmud. They
asked around in several places and were turned away. Then in desperation, they
crossed the street and decided to ask the Catholic church of St. Joan of Arc
for space. They expected another rejection, but the pastor of the time welcomed
them with open arms and allowed them to use any and all space they needed… thus
started a tradition of dialogue and friendship, and the rest, as they say, is
history.

The Gospel of St Luke presents us with Mary, a girl from
Nazareth, a small town in Galilee, in the outskirts of the Roman Empire and on
the outskirts of Israel as well. A village. Yet the Lord’s gaze rested on her,
on this little girl from that distant village, on the one he had chosen to be the
mother of his Son. In view of this motherhood, Mary was preserved from original
sin, from that fracture in communion with God, with others and with creation,
which deeply wounds every human being. But this fracture was healed in advance
in the Mother of the One who came to free us from the slavery of sin. The <span style="font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Immaculata was written in God’s design; she is the
fruit of God’s love that saves the world.

<span lang="EN" style="font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ansi-language: EN; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">And Our Lady never
distanced herself from that love: throughout her life her whole being is a
“yes” to that love, it is the “yes” to God. But that didn’t make life easy for
her! When the Angel calls her “full of grace” (Lk 1:28), she is “greatly
troubled” for in her humility she feels she is nothing before God. The Angel
consoles her: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And
behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his
name Jesus” (v. 30,31). This announcement troubles her even more because she
was not yet married to Joseph; but the Angel adds: “The Holy Spirit will come
upon you… therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God”
(v. 35). Mary listens, interiorly obeys and responds: “Behold, I am the
handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word” (v.38).
<span lang="EN" style="font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ansi-language: EN; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">The mystery of this girl
from Nazareth, who is in the heart of God, is not estranged from us. She is not
there and we over here. No, we are connected. Indeed, God rests his loving gaze
on every man and every woman! By name and surname. His gaze of love is on every
one of us. The Apostle Paul states that God “chose us in him before the
foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him” (Eph
1:4). We too, from all time, were chosen by God to live a holy life, free of
sin. It is a plan of love that God renews every time we come to him, especially
through the Sacraments.
<span lang="EN" style="font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ansi-language: EN; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">On this Solemnity, then,
by contemplating our beautiful Immaculate Mother, let us also recognize our
truest destiny, our deepest vocation: to be loved, to be transformed by love,
to be transformed by the beauty of God. Let us look to her, our Mother, and
allow her to look upon us, for she is our mother and she loves us so much; let
us allow ourselves to be watched over by her so that we may learn how to be
more humble, and also more courageous in following the Word of God; to welcome
the tender embrace of her Son Jesus, an embrace that gives us life, hope and
peace.

Oh my God!

In the daytime the cloud of the LORD was seen over the Dwelling;
whereas at night, fire was seen in the cloud
by the whole house of Israel
in all the stages of their journey.

Thank you! Gracias.

How interesting!

Me causaba gran curiosidad esa expresión.

Me lleva a preguntarme,

Do you know what it means?

Trust. Confianza. Completamente. Total.

Mi más querido Dios.
I do not know how to just trust. I do not know how to trust that you will take care of me, of my family, of my sisters.
La oigo decir: "Don´t allow anyone take my money"!
No permites.
Surprise!
No está pesada. La carga no era pesada a pesar de que era mucha y se salía por to´as (todas) partes. Hmm.
Rico.

Altas. Bajitas. Grandes. Gordas.
!Que horror! Dale. A cortar.

Me pongo a mirarla y me pregunto: ¿Qué hago?

gente. ¿Cómo esquivar a la gente? NO era la mejor idea…
Me encantan
hermanos.
El Papa
Francisco escribió Laudato Si – una encíclica
sobre el medio ambiente. Aunque no la he terminado de leer, hoy algo me dejó
pensando.
Vuelvo a Israel. Bajar a Egipto, ?cambio profundo? estaba listo para ello?
Cambios...

no estamos acostumbrados.

Estuvo abierto a
hacer lo que el Señor le pedía. Y así fue. Encima, fue capaz de perdonar a sus
hermanos y de recibirlos con brazos abiertos.
¿Qué me

Hoy lo he
recordado.

Si me

Me toca

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1
